October 18, 2009, Channel 9 Your Show, White House press secretary Dana Perino, music icon Quincy Jones, and Boulder historian Silvia Pettem
DENVER - YOUR SHOW began this week with a taped segment with former White House Press Secretary and Colorado native Dana Perino.
She was in town last week to deliver a speech to the Lincoln Club of Colorado and to the Colorado chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. She answered your questions about what it’s like in the White House briefing room, how she viewed her role as press secretary, bias in the news media, whether there are any true statespeople left in American politics, and whether she would change any answer she gave at the podium during her tenure in the White House. Viewers who participated included: Cheryl Redmond Doyle, John Cleveland, Bob Kyle, Cheryl in Wheat Ridge and Scott Yates.
YOUR SHOW continued with a special interview with music icon Quincy Jones that was conducted by YOUR SHOW viewer George Merritt. The multi-Grammy Award winner discussed the current state of music, the good old days of working with artists like Lionel Hampton and Duke Ellington, the biggest impact to the music scene that he’s seen in decades and the current projects he’s working on. Viewers who participated included: Nicole Fields, Takesha Hurd, Brian Olson, Jan Beckett, Patricia Traxler and Kevin Tolman. Special thanks to George Merritt, a former reporter, now a communications executive, who was part of a YOUR SHOW pilot project to include you, the viewers, even more.
Finally, we concluded this week by featuring What’s on the Mind of Boulder historian/author Silvia Pettem and her search to identify a 1954 murder victim from her community. Pettem’s book, “Someone’s Daughter,” chronicles the story of the young woman known only to Boulder as “Jane Doe.” Pettem announced Boulder authorities are testing DNA right now to determine if they will finally learn her identity 55 years after her murder.
Coming up next week on YOUR SHOW, we’ll feature some of the Your Health, Your Congress, Your Voice forum hosted by 9NEWS and The Denver Post that did not make it into our prime time program. We asked numerous questions from viewers about the topic to both of Colorado’s U.S. Senators and four of our seven congressional representatives. We’ll also have an opportunity on Tuesday to ask your questions to veteran actor Ed Begley, Jr. and journalist Paula Zahn.
