The Boulder County Sheriff's Office said Katharine Farrand Dyer is alive and well, The Daily Camera in Boulder said Thursday.

Denver police received a missing report on Dyer in March 1954 and the discovery of a decomposing woman's body the next month led authorities to suspect the Jane Doe victim was Dyer.

The body was never officially identified, prompting Boulder historian Silvia Pettem to call for the homicide case to be reopened in 2004.

Pettem said Dyer has been living In Australia since 1963 under the name Barbara Jones.
