February 2, 2004, Boulder County Sheriff's Office, Press Release: Sheriff Pelle Considers Re-Opening 1954 "Jane Doe" Homicide Investigation, by Lt. Phil West
Sheriff Joe Pelle will host a press conference on Wednesday, February 4th, at which time he will formally announce the Sheriff’s Office’ willingness to re-open the unsolved 1954 “Jane Doe” homicide investigation, contingent upon the expense of a complete forensic examination of the body being covered privately.
Local historian Silvia Pettem has asked the Sheriff’s Office to take another look at the case and has persuaded the Boulder Historical Society to launch a fund-raising effort to cover the anticipated $10,000.00 expense.

Sheriff Pelle and Ms. Pettem will talk about plans for re-opening the investigation at a press conference to be held at the Sheriff’s Office at the Boulder County Justice Center, 1777 6th Street, Boulder, on Wednesday, February 4th, at 9:30 a.m. A press packet with additional details will be provided at that time.
Weather permitting, the Sheriff’s Office will conduct a brief tour for the media of the site in Boulder Canyon where “Jane Doe’s” body was found in 1954 as well as her grave site in Boulder’s Columbia cemetery following the press conference. The Sheriff’s Office will provide transportation; access to the cemetery will be limited to foot traffic, so camera crews should be prepared.
