April 10, 1954 Boulder Daily Camera, Slain Girl's Identity Remains a Mystery
Many Inquiries and Leads Checked Without Success

WOMAN'S SHOE AND BLOOD REPORTED SEEN NEAR BOULDER, BUT NOT FOUNDThe identity of a slain girl whose body was found in Boulder canon Thursday night remained a mystery this afternoon. Officers had no suspects in the fatal beating- and no clues to any.

Sheriff Arthur T. Eyerson said he has received at least a dozen inquiries from persons wondering whether the victim might be their missing relative or friend, but all of the leads have proved incorrect. The blonde victim, believed to be 17 to 20 years old, was nude when her body was discovered at the edge of Boulder Creek eight miles west of here. No trace of her clothing has been found.

Everson received an indirect report Friday night that a Loveland man saw a woman's shoe and some blood outside a cabin on the Lee Hill road near the Left Hand canon junction northwest of Boulder. The sheriff went to the scene but could find nothing. Deputy Sheriff Wray Andrews scoured the area more thoroughly in daylight this morning but his search too was completely fruitless.

GOOD TIP FIZZLES OUT
Gilpin County Sheriff Kenneth McKenzie gave Everson a tip which looked good for a time. A young woman, answering the description of the murder victim, was intoxicated at Central City last Saturday and two soldiers were to take her home. The girl's identity was known and she was found to be at work in Denver today.

Denver police were checking today on a woman's report that a strange acting driver stopped to ask her for directions in Denver and she said a young blond was lying in the back seat. The car bore an out-of-state license.

Police Chief I.B. "Dad" Bruce of Colorado Springs telephoned the sheriff's office and asked that the victim's body be checked for a scar just below the left knee. There is no such scar.

Sheriff Everson said he has received calls or messages from Kansas City, Des Moines, Omaha, Denver, an unnamed town in Texas, and Hanna, Wyo., about missing girls. In all cases, the descriptions did not come close to that of the slain girl. For example, one call from Texas concerned a missing girl who weighed 200 pounds- just double the weight of the victim.

PUEBLO MOTHER VIEWS BODY
A Pueblo woman came to Boulder Friday afternoon to see if she could identify the body as that of her 17 year old daughter missing since March 1. The Pueblo girl had had dental work and no appendectomy. The victim's teeth had no fillings and her appendix had been removed.

Members of three other families have viewed the body for possible identification. In two instances, the persons said it was not the relative for whom they were looking. In the third instance the girl feared to be the victim was later found alive.

Positive identification will be difficult if not impossible because the body is in such bad condition due to mainly attacks by animals or birds.

Working with the sheriff's office, Boulder police detectives also have been checking leads but said "none of them has amounted to anything."

Coroner George W. Howe said today the inquest has not been definitely scheduled but it may be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday.
