June 3, 1954, Daily Camera, Another Lead to Slain Girl's Identity Probed

Another of the scores of leads to the identity of the murdered girl whose body was found in Boulder caƱon on April 8 was being investigated today. The latest clue did not look promising, however, because the description of the supposedly missing girl did not match that of the slaying victim in some respects.

Elmo Williams, manager of an apartment house in Denver, told Denver police that a woman moved out of the apartment April 4 or 5 but left a trunk and four boxes of clothing in her room.

When she moved into the apartment April 1 or 2, Williams said, she identified herself as Mrs. Michael Petro, wife of a soldier at Camp Carson, Colo. Denver detectives said the luggage produced letters which showed the girl's real name was Eva Mitchell.

She was described as being 22 years old, 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighing about 115 pounds, and having blue eyes and strawberry blond hair.

The age of the girl whose nude body was found west of Boulder was established by dental X-rays as 19 years and by a pathologist's examination as 17 to 20. She was 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighed 100 pounds. Her eyes were gone when the body was found. Her hair was blond but did not have the tinge which is usually called strawberry blond.

Detective Chief James E. Childers of Denver said letters found in Miss Mitchell's luggage will be used in an attempt to trace her.
