June 4, 1954 Rocky Mountain News, Canon Slaying "Victim" Found Alive in Denver
Police ran up against another dead end Thursday in their probe of the Boulder Canon mystery slaying.
A 22-year-old Denver girl, who was named as the possible victim, turned up alive. She was identified as Eva Mitchell, who formerly lived at 844 Ogden Street.
Miss Mitchell walked into District No. 3 police station at 20 E. Center Ave. at 11 a.m. Thursday, after reading of the search for her in the Rocky Mountain News. She told Capt. Harold A. Dill she left her apartment at 844 Ogden Street on April 5 to live with a girl friend in South Denver.
She said she had left her clothing there until she was able to return and pay her rent, Dill said.
Miss Mitchell's description tallied closely with that of the blond girl whose nude, battered body was found April 8 in Boulder Canon, eight miles west of Boulder. The victim has never been identified.
Boulder Sheriff Art Everson said Thursday he still was awaiting further word from police in Van Buren, Ark., where 29-year-old Marvin S. Boyd has confessed the slaying. However, Everson said the confession appeared to be a phony.
